| " I watched "Warai No Daigaku" last night, and enjoyed it very much. I understand it was originally a stage play, and you could see how it would work very well on the stage. The two characters are very demanding roles but the actors were absolutely excellent. It can be very difficult to maintain an audiences interest with so little change of scene or action, but the battle of wits proved both compelling, and ultimately very moving as Koji's character discovered his own humanity." | gI saw "University of Laughs" yesterday and thought it was brilliant. And how timely it is as we now enter, in the U.S., a period of time when one may have bookstores and libraries scrutinized to see what we are buying and/or reading!!!! The acting of Koji was superb, as was that of Goro Inagaki. It takes a lot of talent to keep an audience enthralled for 2 hours with only two actors on the screen. The film was in a small theatre, part of the Anthology Film Archives. There were many young Japanese Americans as well as others and everybody just laughed and laughed. The subtitles were excellent; and I felt I did not miss much by not understanding Japanese. It was wonderful to see how Koji was getting more and more involved in re-writing the play , and the dialog was hilarious. There were indeed, many wonderful moments. It was wonderful to be able to sit in the theatre and watch this superb actor.h June 21, 2005 S in New York |
