August 19 From March 27 to 28, 2008, shooting of some scenes for this movie was held at The Museum Meiji-mura (Meiji village) in Aichi prefecture. You can see Tadanobu Asano, Miyazaki Aoi and Teruyuki Kagawa in ?Meiji period costumes here. August 17 "Tsurugidake Ten no Ki" wrapped up on July 25. Here's the photo of the main cast and the Director Daisaku Kimura. As a Koji Yakusho fan, I'm so pleased to know that Koji Yakusho's son, Ichiro Hashimoto appears in this movie. July 5, 2008 On June 19, I was so surprised to hear the news that sound engineer, Mr. Teiichi Saito got severely injured by falling rocks during sooting the film "Mt. Tsurugidake". ( Here's the Variety news by Mr. Mark Schillng): "Rocks injure 'Tsurugiadake' engineer Teiichi Saito severly injured, taken to hospital Sound engineer Teiichi Saito was severely injured by falling rocks on Thursday while on location for mountain adventure "Tsurugidake," being filmed at an elevation of 8,500 feet in Toyama Prefecture. Saito was recording sounds apart from the cast and crew when crew members noticed falling rock and tried to alert him, but Saito, who was wearing headphones, apparently didn't hear the warnings and sustained a severe blow to the head. He was helicoptered from the site and taken to a nearby hospital. Helmer Taisaku Kimura's pic is based on a novel by Jiro Nitta about a 1907 expedition to climb the Tsurugidake mountain, considered one of the most dangerous in Japan." On June 30, the film's official website announced that Mr. Saito was recuperating at hospital and that shooting would be resumed from July 1. Let's hope that he has a complete recovery. December 28, 2007 Koji Yakusho portrays a veteran former surveyor, named Morisaku Furuta, who had twice attempted in vain to climb Mt. Tsurugidake . Yakusho's role is regarded as most important since in one of the scenes where Shibasaki (Asano) and Furuta (Yakusho) talk, there is revealed, by implication, the theme of this movie. Director Kimura says that he is very appreciative that Yakusho-san (Mr.Yakusho) has decided to join the cast of this movie, as he believes that he is an actor who can well express the Japanese mind and heart. Here is Koji Yakusho's comment: Director Kimura has tremendous enthusiasm for this movie about a human story amid the grandeur of nature; and it is a great pleasure for me to participate in this sort of movie.
